The artist invents seemingly self-sufficient structures that confuse the usual objecthood and functionality of familiar things, as it might be the case of Small Moon , a seductive and almost lyrical example of mimicry. Vogl’s extremely sensitive poetics of the everyday gesture, non-pretentious, authentic supplement to a reality, is turned for a moment into a playground where a moderate dose of irony balance the precariousness and insufficiency of today’s imperfect world. Five Moons change the perception of an urban landscape by multiplying the natural phenomenon of a full moon. Attached to the crane’s arms, four light-boxes with drawings of a full moon appear on the horizon, as if surreal engines of natural energy and constructions sites of imagination._ Gold-Inoculation_ and Black Hole in a White Cube are seemingly soft and innocent interventions in the physical body of the ex-Peterlini. The artist installs numerous door-viewers in newly constructed plaster walls that obscure the building’s historical layers and isolate non-restored rooms thus making the cut off spaces visible again. Subsequently he injects one ounce of gold into the fabrics of the walls, which will remain there after the exhibition, as if trying to enrich the value of a transformed factory. Gold-Inoculation refers to criminal tactics of gold mines’ owners who in the 19th century used to shoot gold nuggets into the depleted mines in order to trick naïve buyers to purchase them. The artist’s reconstruction of such a manipulative practice incorporates a witty, critical approach to the exhibition circuit structure.
